MFM 2007 (or “The Birth of Tits McGee”)

September 13th, 2007

Yes yes… MFM was AMAZING. COMPLETELY worth every bit of trouble, every bad omen that I pushed past in the weeks leading up to the con. Now, I don’t exactly believe in offering up a blow-by-blow report of each day, but an overall summary and a LOT of shout-outs to some freaking awesome people are DEFINITELY in order:

First off, this con was the beginning of a new LOL-tastic nickname for me which I find all too appropriate and just downright outrageously hilarious: Tits McGee. I wound up making an equally hilarious badge to match this new name, and much hilarity followed, to the point where people were actually greeting me by the name “Tits” or “Tits McGee”. I certainly did not mind, I found it rather amusing. At least I’ll be remembered!

Secondly, I was absolutely THRILLED with the popularity of the rolymuffin or “puff ball” badges I was drawing! If you did not get the chance to commission me for one and would like one, let me know, I’ll be more than happy to do one for you! They are $15 each and absolutely adorable. =3

I went to this con with little or no intention of taking commissions, as I have never gained anything in the past by spending a weekend behind a table in ANY Artist Alley. I’ve never been commissioned while sitting behind a table, and so I honestly didn’t think I’d do it this year, so that I could just run around (like a lunatic, as usual) and enjoy the con, instead. But then I ran into a bit of trouble with this idea, as my feet started swelling (for reasons unknown, presumably an allergic reaction) on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, making it painful to walk. What started out as a nuisance became excrutiating, to the point where I went down to the front desk to borrow their wheelchair, only to find out it required a $100 deposit, which was money I did not have to spare. Some of you may remember that I disappeared from Artist Alley on Friday afternoon/evening to seek medical attention… We never did find the clinic that we got THREE SETS OF DIRECTIONS FOR, so I went with a home remedy of binding my feet with ACE bandages, instead, which seemed to help tremendously. Many thanks to everyone who helped me out by running around and getting things for me, as walking was OUTRAGEOUSLY painful for about half the con. Also, thank you to the generous artists who shared their badge materials with me (laminaters, laminating plastic, badge clips). Again, I hadn’t originally intended to take commissions, but with my feet in the state they were in, it just made sense to sit down, stay put, and stay off my feet, and Artist Alley was the most productive place to do so.

Driving to Atlanta from Raleigh and then riding to Memphis from there worked out a lot better than I thought it would. As much as I love the mountains, and as beautiful as they are, they slow down the trip. Yes, I went south to get to Atlanta, and then north again to get to Memphis, but I skipped the mountains, which saved a lot on time, and even more on gas and wear and tear on my car, which is kind of important at the moment, as I’m not sure I’d trust my car 100% in the mountains.

As such, I would like to issue an apology to the Carolina Furs for all the mix-ups with the caravan. I’ll go into more detail later in a post on the mailing list, and explain myself a little better then.

I have some post-con homework to handle which is as follows: Complete Phelan Mahoney’s commission and get it mailed out within the next two weeks, draw a rolymuffin badge for RRD, complete giftart for Caldy and ship his book back to him, finish the mouse girl pinup commission that I started forever ago, begin the squishy goodness that is the pair of commissions for Queue, begin FIRST HUMAN DRAWINGS I’VE DONE IN FOUR YEARS, start Mallow’s commission, and purchase my own laminater and badge materials.

Highlights of the weekend included a text message reading “omg milk and cookies is about baby furs *is trapped in room*” and a room party involving very awesome people and a few rounds of Apples to Apples, due to which Tibet is now BANNED.

And last, but not least… Some words and stuff for some awesome people.

A huge thank you TygerCowboy and staff, for putting on yet another amazing con. Without all of y’all’s hard work, we wouldn’t have such an amazing “pizza party gone horribly wrong” every year, and I would have no reason to park my rear parts in a car for 12 hours and blow an outlandish amount of money on gasoline. You guys make it completely worth it. So thank you!

Queue, thanks for looking after me and dragging me all over creation (we wound up in both Arkansas AND Mississippi) to try and find me a doctor on Friday, and for those life-saving food runs to the McDonalds of Mystery.

Lin and Foxcross, thanks for being amazing car buddies. =D The whole trip there and back rocked because of you two and Queue. Lots and lots and lots of love.

Jouva, thank you for letting Foxcross and I room with you. ^_^ Our con stay would not have been possible without you.

Razerz, thank you thank you thank you for inviting me to THE MOST AMAZING ROOM GATHERINGS EVER. You and your roomies MADE my weekend SO worthwhile~ I felt so at home, and the hilarity that ensued will stay with me for many years to come. Thank you so so so so much for inviting me to come hang out with you. Otherwise, there would be no Tits McGee! =O Looking forward to seeing you again next year!

Similarly, I would like to thank the folks I hung out with Saturday and Sunday nights up in 489 who made my con experience this year totally amazing. You guys rock so much face. Hali, I am SO sorry I missed your show. ;_; I very thoroughly enjoyed the CDs I bought from you, though, and I do hope that we stay in touch so that I can come to one of your shows in the future. <3 Ninnin, thanks for being such an awesome host and putting up with my nonsense. ^_^

Regi, thank you for being the most awesome person I’ve ever shared a table with in Artist Alley that I did not know beforehand. You made being stuck behind a table too awesome for words. =D

The Orions, Strider and Kerstin. You guys are just too awesome for words. I really can’t help smiling when I’m around you guys, you just have really fun auras, I dunno how to really explain it. Kerstin, kudos to you for donating your hair to Locks of Love. Strider, sorry to hear about your laptop dying, hope you can get that taken care of soon. ^_^ Hope to see y’all at FWA~ BOOB SQUAD~! =D

Duo and Caldy, my neighbors to the north that I never knew I had. I really have to come visit y’all when I have some money again.

Leo and Tina, I hope you guys had a wonderful time, and that little Gabriel enjoyed his first con. ^_^ Let me know if y’all ever need a sitter, I’m only an hour away!

Thank you to everyone who commissioned me, you boost my ego and make me feel like my art is worthwhile. SOOOOOOO much love.

Thank you to all the new friends I made, all the awesome people I hung out with… You guys made my con experience 100% pure awesome.

That just about sums it up. =D Thanks again, everyone! Hope everybody got home safe, and that I get to see you all again next year! ^.^

Also, before I forget… if I did any art for you (badges, commissions, gifts, etc), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE scan or photograph it and send me the image at sakuramerquise AT gmail DOT com

New Look

January 16th, 2007

Well, my website is looking more fabulous than ever, thanks to some help from the marvellous Caltsar (thaaaaank youuuu… I fail SO hard at this stuff).

Still haven’t hooked up the scanner I got for my birthday, should probably handle that…  As well as getting the power cord for my laptop replaced (AGAIN, since the people at Circuit City/Acer sent me the wrong thing).  Need to have that running and ready to go before we go down to Furry Weekend Atlanta (just one month left!).

I AM taking commissions for badges - if you are going to be at FWA, and you would like to have your badge for the con, you need to let me know ASAP!  Time is running out!
